Kearney NE, our first Stop on our way to San Francisco

Hi everyone! We left Brodhead around 11:30am and got into Kearney Nebraska at about 7 o'clock in the evening. We stopped in at the Kearney Archway which was closed but we've been there before. It is a state of the art interactive museum and is a fun place to visit. Definitely worth the price of admission.

This museum is actually pretty cool. It highlights the history of people traveling east to west along this route from ancient times to modern times. This part of highway 80 was native american path that later evolved to a wagon trail until it became a national interstate highway. The museum interacts with you as you march through time.

We were able to visit an earth lodge made by the native Americans mostly Pawnee and Sioux in the 1800's. It smelled pretty smoky inside, but the lodge was very roomy and would accomondate 15-45 inhabitants. The earth lodges were owned by the women and they ruled the roost!

Here is an inside view of the lodge.
